WASHINGTON, DC (September 20, 2016) — LUNGevity Foundation, the nation’s leading lung cancer-focused organization, today announced the addition of KPMG Chairman and CEO Lynne Doughtie to its Board of Directors. Doughtie joins a board composed of global leaders who lend their proficiency, knowledge, and passion to further LUNGevity’s work to change outcomes for people with lung cancer through research.

“We are honored and thrilled that Lynne has agreed to serve on our board,” said Andrea Stern Ferris, President and Chairman of LUNGevity Foundation. “Her outstanding record as a business leader and her unique, strategic perspective will benefit the Foundation and allow us to increase LUNGevity’s impact on behalf of the lung cancer community.”

“I’m passionate about making a difference in increasing the quality of life and survivorship for all affected by lung cancer, having lost my mother and grandmother to this terrible disease,” said Doughtie. “I look forward to working with LUNGevity to accomplish this important mission through the acceleration of critical research.”

As Chairman and CEO, Doughtie leads more than 29,000 professionals at KPMG—the fastest growing Big Four professional services firm in the United States—which provides innovative business solutions and audit, tax, and advisory services to many of the world’s largest and most prestigious organizations.

Doughtie is a Governing Board member for the Center for Audit Quality and also serves as a board member for both NAF and the Partnership for New York City. Doughtie has received numerous recognitions, including being named one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women.

About Lung Cancer in the U.S.

  • About 1 in 15 Americans will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime
  • More than 224,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year
  • About 60%-65% of all new lung cancer diagnoses are among people who have never smoked or are former smokers
  • Lung cancer takes more lives than the next four deadliest cancers (colorectal, pancreatic, breast, and prostate) combined
  • Only 18% of all people diagnosed with lung cancer will survive 5 years or more, BUT if it’s caught before it spreads, the chance for 5-year survival improves dramatically
