One of LUNGevity’s two flagship survivorship events, the International Lung Cancer Survivorship Conference (ILCSC), is being held virtually September 20 – 21, 2024. This is a free, online event that allows people with lung cancer and caregivers from around the world to join from the comfort of their own homes and hear from a star-studded lineup of lung cancer experts discussing the latest advances in research and treatment.
You can register today for free, or view the conference agenda.
Last year’s conference was one of our most successful events yet, with over 900 registrants from 62 countries. With this year’s lineup of speakers and topics, we expect that number to grow even more! Let’s dive into some of this year’s meeting highlights.
Keynote Speaker: Solange Peters, MD, PhD, University Hospital of Lausanne
Dr. Solange Peters, a thoracic oncologist based at the University Hospital of Lausanne (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois - CHUV) in Switzerland, will kick off ILCSC24 as this year’s keynote speaker. Dr. Peters has a list of honors and accomplishments too long to fully capture in this short blog, but she was recently recognized by OncLive as one of this year’s “Giants of Cancer Care” for her work in advancing lung cancer research and treatment.
Dr. Peters is the second woman and the first European to receive this honor. She is also a past president of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and a highly sought-after international lung cancer expert.
2024 represents a particularly meaningful anniversary for lung cancer research, as it marks the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the connection between lung cancer and the EGFR gene. This key development helped unleash a new era of advances in precision medicine, the concept of finding the right medicine for the right person at the right time.
Over the last 20 years, we have seen the identification of a growing number of targetable biomarkers with an expanding list of treatments that are helping to extend and improve the lives of those living with lung cancer. Dr. Peters will reflect on this period of growth and progress and discuss how it has shaped how we approach lung cancer research and treatment today. You won’t want to miss it!

Special Sessions and Breakouts
There's something for everyone at this year’s conference. As in years past, we’ll have “on-demand” sessions covering various lung cancer basics like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy, and more. You'll be able to watch these sessions at your convenience.
This year also features four global panel discussions digging deeper into what lung cancer care looks like in different regions of the world, including Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Each panel is made up of leading lung cancer experts and patient advocates who will discuss the regional needs and opportunities for people with lung cancer.
Back by popular demand, we have six biomarker breakout sessions, facilitated by experts and advocates. This is an exciting opportunity for you to interact directly with leaders in the field and get your questions answered.
NEW this year are featured breakout sessions conducted in Mandarin Chinese and in Spanish. We also have a special breakout for members of the Indian lung cancer community (facilitated in English).
With all the advances happening in the lung cancer space, we are seeing more and more people living longer and living well. During the Survivorship Panel, you will hear from three long-term lung cancer survivors: Merel Hennink (Netherlands; ROS1+ NSCLC), Edward “Buddy” Cutler (US; NSCLC), and Montessa Lee (US; SCLC). They will discuss their stories and how research and clinical trials have played a role in their survival.
You will also have the opportunity to learn more about some of LUNGevity’s activities and ways you can get connected, participate in research or advocacy, or learn more about our survivorship support services.
Registration is free and NOW OPEN! You don’t want to miss out on this year’s exciting lineup of star speakers discussing the latest developments.
