What Is Translational Science Research?

Translational research bridges the gap between scientific breakthroughs made in the laboratory and patient care. It turns knowledge into real-world outcomes that have a direct impact on people with lung cancer so they can live longer, fuller lives.

Why Invest in Translational Science Research?

Because research saves lives. Your support helps researchers develop better tools to detect lung cancer early when it’s curable and create new treatments that ensure everyone with lung cancer has the right treatment available at the right time.

How Do We Select the Projects We Fund?

Our philosophy is simple! We fund the best science and the best scientists.

The Best Science

We invest in projects that detect and diagnose lung cancer early and projects that lead to new and better treatments.

The Best Scientists

We understand the need to ensure a strong pipeline of talented researchers devoted to extending and improving the lives of those impacted by lung cancer. Funding these researchers keeps the brightest minds focused on lung cancer.

Research proposals are rigorously vetted to ensure we are funding the most impactful science possible. The review process includes a formal National Institutes of Health (NIH)-style study section with Scientific Advisory Board members and other lung cancer experts. This not only helps us identify the most promising proposals for research into the early detection and treatment of lung cancer, but also lets us make substantive suggestions that improve the proposals. Projects that show a sustained, powerful influence on the research field and have a near-term impact on improving lung cancer mortality rates are funded.

LUNGevity continually adds new award programs to leverage and enhance scientific advancements.
